Abstract
ABSTRACT
The commitment of a company to excellence is largely determined by the use of management control systems tools have been implemented. In this context, the objective of this article is to analyze the effect of using such tools on the organizational performance of companies in Morocco. To achieve this, we relied on data collected in 2023 from a sample of 29 companies operating in the country. Descriptive statistics such as frequency tables were used for qualitative variables, while measures of central tendency and dispersion were applied to quantitative variables. Principal Component Analysis that (PCA) was employed to construct synthetic indices of organizational performance, budgeting process, and balanced scorecard usage. To assess the relationship between management control systems tools and organizational performance, the Ordinary Least Squares (OLS) method was applied. Overall, the results show that budgeting process is one of the most effective tools for enhancing organizational performance, while the balanced scorecard does not have a statistically significant impact in the Moroccan context. Although the relationship between management control systems tools and performance has been examined in the literature, there is still a lack of studies focusing specifically on the Moroccan setting. The findings of this empirical study highlight nuanced insights and, at times, contradictory conclusions, offering limited cumulative or generalizable knowledge. Nevertheless, our study contributes to the ongoing debate on the relationship between management control systems tools and organizational performance, with particular emphasis on the importance of the budgeting tool in helping managers align with strategic objectives and foster organizational learning.
